Clutter is a huge problem for many of us and it can manifest on so many different levels – from the physical clutter of too many things, to the emotional clutter of feeling fearful or unworthy. It is really just another form of self-sabotage. Even stress is a form of clutter, when your mind is filled with overwhelm and negative thoughts.
It’s not about the Stuff
Whether your clutter is physical or emotional, it is not about the stuff, but rather about the energetic logjam that the clutter represents. Clutter is the opposite of clarity. It is the antithesis of expansion. Clutter is energetic stagnation. The mess that clutter creates represents a great big energetic block which can reveal itself on the physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social or mental plane.
An inability to throw things away often represents fear and lack of faith. The fear is that there will never be enough, so we need to hold on to things – thoughts, relationships, stuff, body weight, clothes, values that no longer serve us or emotions like hurt, guilt and blame. All of this keeps us bogged down and drains us energetically.
Having clutter on any level presents a wonderful opportunity to examine the underlying cause and clear it using the Emotional Freedom Technique. Using EFT to clear clutter in any area of your life can be a liberating and transforming process.
How to Use EFT to Clear the Clutter
Start by identifying your clutter – be it too many books, papers, thoughts, unpleasant emotions, bad habits or whatever. Now ask yourself a few questions about it.
- Why do you need to hang on to it?
- Is it a distraction or a form of self-punishment?
- How is it serving you?
- What would your life be like without it?
- What fears are you suppressing by hanging on to the clutter?
- What does the clutter really mean to you?
Now use Meridian Tapping to first acknowledge the existence of the clutter and then any fearful feelings that come up when you attempt to clear it.
“Even though I have surrounded myself by all this stuff, I deeply and completely accept myself
“Even though I feel panicky and overwhelmed when I start clearing up the clutter, I accept these feelings anyway
The next step is to express all the negative feelings that are keeping you stuck in the cycle of clutter.
“Even though, deep down, all this stuff helps me to feel safe…
“Even though I need to hang on to this stuff because I am scared there will never be enough….
“Even though I don’t have the courage to face all these unopened bills…
When you have reduced the impact of the negative feelings, inject some positive feelings and choices into the equation.
“I choose to let it go
“I choose to abandon my scarcity consciousness
“I choose to trust that there will always be enough
“I choose to believe that I am enough
